Bridging the Gap Between Energy Innovation and Environmental Justice
Pooja Shah has been passionate about the energy trilemma—energy security, energy equity, and environmental sustainability—long before entering the energy industry.
Growing up in India, a country heavily reliant on coal power plants and internal combustion engine vehicles, Pooja often pondered the nation’s ability to meet future energy demands affordably, reliably, and sustainably. This curiosity led her to New York, where she pursued a Master’s degree in Energy Systems Engineering with a focus on renewable energy and sustainable enterprise at Syracuse University.
Pooja has since worked in various segments of the energy and transportation industry. Her early career at Kiewit involved innovative engineering and design for utility-scale renewable energy projects, accelerating the transition to clean energy. Her expertise spans engineering, design, technical due diligence, policy, advocacy, and equity within the renewables and transportation space.
After five years in engineering and construction, Pooja transitioned to consulting at DNV. As a senior consultant in the Energy Storage & Emerging Technologies Advisory, she helps clients navigate global energy and transportation sector trends: decarbonization, electrification, digitization, and decentralization. Pooja supports technical advisory, development, safety, tech, and certification services for renewables and electrification of transportation, aiding industries, governments, independent power providers, and utilities in achieving a decarbonized economy and addressing climate change.
Her key interest areas include climate change solutions, sustainability, environmental justice, energy transition, renewable/alternative energy, energy storage, smart grid integration, electric vehicle and charging infrastructure, and urban mobility.
