The opportunity to honor and celebrate the exceptional women shaping Canada's waterpower sector is here! Women in Renewable Energy (WiRE) and Waterpower Canada are thrilled to announce the opening of nominations for the prestigious 2025 Woman of Waterpower Award.

This esteemed award recognizes the remarkable achievements and contributions of women who are making a significant impact in the Canadian waterpower industry. We are seeking to spotlight those individuals who are not only excelling in their professional roles but are also actively advancing the role of women in the energy sector and improving the quality of life for women across Canada through their involvement in waterpower.

Who Should Be Nominated?

We encourage you to nominate individuals who have demonstrated excellence in areas such as:

  • Leadership: Driving innovation and positive change within their organizations and the industry.

  • Policy and Advocacy: Championing policies and initiatives that support women and the advancement of waterpower.

  • Technical Advancement and R&D: Contributing to cutting-edge research and development in waterpower technologies.

  • Project Development: Successfully managing and executing significant waterpower projects.

  • Community Engagement: Engaging with and positively impacting communities through waterpower initiatives.

  • Promotion/Adoption of Clean Energy Technologies: Advocating for and facilitating the adoption of clean energy solutions.

  • Volunteer Work: Dedicating time and effort to supporting women and the waterpower sector through volunteer activities.

  • Being an Exceptional Role Model: Inspiring and mentoring other women in the industry.

Nomination Details:

  • Who Can Nominate: Nominations can be submitted by individuals, associations, universities, colleges, professional societies, and other organizations (including for-profit and non-profit). Self-nominations are also encouraged. We highly recommend including letters of support with self-nominations.

  • Eligibility: Nominees must be a woman living in Canada and working in Canada’s waterpower industry. Nominations from organizations or individuals outside of Canada are also accepted. A curriculum vitae (CV) is encouraged but not required.

  • Supporting Documents: After filling out the nomination form linked below, you may send supporting documents via email to info@womeninrenewableenergy.ca, ensure the subject line reads “2025 Woman of Waterpower Award - Candidate Name

What does the Winner Receive?

The winner will be presented with a prestigious trophy featuring the Waterpower Canada and WiRE logos, the award name, and the winner's full name. Additionally, WiRE will feature an interview with the winner and create a dedicated write-up for the WiRE Spotlight. Both WiRE and Waterpower Canada will widely publicize articles and content highlighting the winner and the award program.

Nomination Deadline Extended: August 16, 2024

The prestigious Woman of Waterpower Award acknowledges and celebrates the remarkable contributions of women within the waterpower sector. This award recognizes their exceptional achievements, strong leadership qualities, and unwavering commitment to the industry. Take this opportunity to nominate an outstanding Canadian woman who embodies these qualities before the deadline of July 31, 2024.

The distinguished award ceremony will take place at the 2024 Canadian Waterpower Week national conference and trade show, taking place September 25 to 27 at the The Westin Ottawa, located at 11 Colonel By Drive in Ottawa. Join us as we honor and applaud the remarkable women shaping the Canadian waterpower industry.

What is the Criteria to Apply? 

Nominees must stand out as an individual who has advanced the role of women and has contributed significantly to the expansion and improvement of women in the energy sector, improved the quality of life for women in Canada directly or indirectly from the water power sector. This may be demonstrated by the nominee through excellence in areas such as: 

Leadership; Policy and advocacy; Technical advancement and R&D; Project development; Community engagement; Promotion / adoption of clean energy technologies; Volunteer work; Being an exceptional role model

Nominations of another individual may be submitted by an:

  • Individual, Association, University or College, Professional Society, or other Organizations (including for and non-profits) 

Self-Nominations may be submitted by an: 

  • Individual *If you are self nominating we encourage you to submit letters of support as well

Additional factors:

  • Candidate must be a Canadian woman

  • Nominations from organizations or individuals outside of Canada are accepted

  • Candidate’s curriculum vitae is not required but is encouraged
