General

Qualifications and Skills
0-5 years of experience with relevant electrical interconnection work
Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering required
experience in Nova Scotia Power, New Brunswick Power, Ontario IESO, ISO-NE, NYISO and / or PJM territories is considered an asset
strong analytical and problem solving capabilities, strong attention to detail, extremely organized and able to manage a myriad of competing priorities
the ability to summarize complex issues and convey information to enable efficient decision making
experience with energy storage is an asset
experience with MS Office, MS Project, AutoCAD, PROMOD, ETAP, PVSyst, Helioscope, Wind Pro, PowerGEM TARA and other design software is considered an asset
experience working with large data sets and programming in Python or other data focused programming languages
Being a self-starter with strong self-directed learning skills is a requirement
Job Description
This is a results-oriented role that would suit a highly motivated individual with experience in renewable energy technologies. The successful candidate will work with SWEB Development’s (SWEB) team members with expertise in renewable energy policy and incentives, real estate, GIS, legal, design, permitting, site preparation, engineering, finance and construction. Strong project management skills and motivation are a requirement, as it will be expected that the successful candidate become a “tariff expert” with regards to utility and ISO timelines, costs, requirements, etc. The successful candidate should have an interest in design tool development and code/standard work. The successful candidate should appreciate and understand the intersection between project engineering decisions and project finance. The main focus of this position is to assist on US based renewable energy projects, with up to 90% of time spent therein, with remaining time spend assisting on Canadian projects. Technical engineering and software training will be provided by SWEB as needed. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to:
represent SWEB as a technical expert with utilities, ISOs, and / or RTOs
calculate solar energy yield using PVSyst
supporting site acquisition with information on grid capacity
developing single line diagrams for distribution and transmission-level Interconnection applications
running power flow analyses of utility scale projects for different scenarios of congestion constraints
maintaining knowledge of tariffs and technical standards at the utility scale projects
familiarity working with wholesale energy markets as well as ancillary service markets
analyzing Feasibility, System Impact and Facility Studies from the utilities, ISOs and / or RTOs for cost reductions and time reduction of upgrades
informing design and decisions for projects in queue
negotiating system upgrade alternatives for cost, and timelines
negotiating utility, ISO, and / or RTO level Interconnection Service Agreements
performing site visits periodically over the course of the projects
tracking technological advancements and drive adoption, as applicable
act as a liaison between electrical suppliers and EPCs
supporting pre-construction team with interconnection requirements and electrical design
supporting construction team with technical tasks, including design, equipment selection and changes as well as managing utility, ISO, and / or RTO schedules
supporting financing team and operations team with technical queries
