Yasemin Somuncu graduated from the Middle East Technical University, Department of Architecture in 1994. After her graduation, she delivered many projects and applications in Mimerya Architecture. In 2002, she received her master's degree on Environment and Energy from the Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA) in London, England. From 2012 to 2020, she developed the EU supported NEED4B, BRICKER and NEW GENERATION projects and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) supported NEXT-GEN project as a Senior Researcher at Özyeğin University Center for Energy, Environment and Economy (CEEE). Since 2020, she took part as a senior expert in the EU / TAS supported SRSS - Technical Assistance for the Implementation of the Energy Efficiency Program in Schools in the TRNC - Implementation of the Community Acquis on Energy Efficiency in the Energy Sector in General, Starting from the Schools – Project and expert architect in the KABEV / Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings in Turkey project carried out by the World Bank supported Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. She is currently developing the IsDB-Innovate supported SMART-GEN (Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Resources Distance Education Modules) Project. She has joint articles on completed projects and user guides for the dissemination of various projects and has co-translated several technical books into Turkish. She worked as the Secretary General of "ZeroBuild Türkiye'21", a voluntary organization. She is certified Passive House Designer and Trainer (for designers and tradespeople – Turkish and English).
Currently, she is the Secretary General of Zero Energy and Passive House Association in Turkey (SEPEV), Board Member of Energy Efficiency and Management Association (EYODER), Advisory Board Member of Turkish Women in Renewable and Energy Platform (TWRE), Member of Engineer and Architect Women's Association (MÜKAD), Founder Member of Çekirdek Türetici (Seed Prosumers) and Member of Non-Toxic Tables and Non-Toxic Cities Platforms.
