2024 Equality in Energy Transitions Finalists
The 2024 Equality in Energy Transition (EIET) Awards ceremony unfolded amidst the vibrant backdrop of the 15th Clean Energy Ministerial and Mission Innovation 9 conference in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil. This year's awards celebrated a record-breaking number of nominees, showcasing the remarkable achievements of women and organizations driving progress across the global energy sector.
The day began with an inspiring address by Tariye Gbadegesin, CEO of Climate Investment Funds, setting the stage for a thought-provoking panel discussion moderated by Jane Cohen, Senior Programme Manager on People-Centred Clean Energy Transitions at the International Energy Agency. Esteemed panelists included Sharan Burrow, Global Advocate for Human Rights, Climate Action and Just Transition, and the Former General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation (2010-2022); Tony Susandy, Deputy Director for Technical and Environmental at the Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation; and Sophie Westlake, Deputy Director, Head of FCDO-DESNZ joint International Energy Unit, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, United Kingdom. They shared their insights on critical topics surrounding gender equality, just transitions, and the future of the energy sector.
Following the panel, Joanna Osawe, President & CEO of Women in Renewable Energy (WiRE), presented the awards, with acceptance speeches delivered virtually by the winners. The audience was captivated by the powerful words of Larissa Noudem, the 2024 Emerging Leader, and Sabiene Heindl, who received the coveted 2024 Woman of Distinction award. POWERful Women, a UK-based organization dedicated to advancing women in the energy sector, was honored with the 2024 Organizational Excellence award. Following a moving acceptance video from Katie Jackson, Chair of POWERful Women, Sophie Westlake graciously accepted the award on the organization's behalf, emphasizing their commitment to driving positive change in the industry.
During the main 2024 EIET Award ceremony, the winners were once again recognized. Afterward, Jean-Francois, the head of the Clean Energy Ministerial, met with Joanna Osawe on stage to extend his congratulations to everyone involved in the 2024 EIET Award program.
The 2024 EIET Awards marked a significant milestone, attracting nominations from high-level government officials, private sector executives, and rising stars across the globe. The exceptional caliber of nominees underscored the growing recognition of women's vital contributions to the energy transition.
