WiRE & WaterPower Canada are excited to bring you the 2022 Woman of Waterpower Award, which will be presented to the winner at the WaterPower Canada Gala taking place 7pm, Thursday, September 22, at the Westin Harbour Castle, 1 Harbour Square, Toronto, ON M5J 1A6
The purpose of these awards is to recognize achievements being made by individual women in the hydropower sector. With consideration to the shift from fossil fuels to more sustainable and renewable methods of energy production, hydropower is easily one of the most important methods of energy production, around the world. According to a report by the IEA released in 2020, hydropower accounted for 17% of global power production. In Canada alone, it provides more than 60% of Canada’s total electricity.
Within this very important segment of the energy sector, are the heroines who make it all happen. This award is designed to highlight and celebrate those women who go through the tremendous lengths required to support, build, and promote Canada’s hydropower industry. These women are role-models, mentors, educators, and leaders, to their peers and colleagues alike. We wish to thank these women with acknowledgement of their great work with the Woman of Waterpower Award.
By celebrating these amazing individuals, we hope to inspire women of all ages to contribute to the energy sector and help to close the gender gap by continuing this great legacy of female contribution.
