Caroline Marchand
Manager of Hydraulic Proposals at ANDRITZ
Caroline Marchand is a mechanical engineer with over 34 years of experience in the hydroelectric industry. Her journey began at the University of Ottawa—just steps from this year’s conference venue—and has since spanned continents and responsibilities, always rooted in advancing hydraulic turbine technology.
Currently serving as Manager of Hydraulic Proposals at ANDRITZ in Montreal, Caroline leads a team that defines hydraulic characteristics of turbine for rehabilitation and new units across the Americas. Prior to this, she held a global role in the R&D organization in Linz, Austria, where she managed a team working on international hydraulic projects. She also led global R&D center of competence for Francis turbines and oversaw a team of great hydraulic designers in Montréal.
Earlier in her career, Caroline directed the Hydraulic Laboratory at ANDRITZ (formerly GE Hydro) for 15 years, where she managed model design, procurement, fabrication, laboratory improvements and testing—contributing to numerous high-profile Canadian projects from design through site commissioning and performance testing.
A dedicated mentor and industry advocate, Caroline has been actively involved with ASME and IEC, helping shape international standards and promote innovation in hydraulic turbine design. Her legacy is one of technical excellence, collaborative leadership, and a deep commitment to mentoring the next generation of engineers.
On a personal note, she is married and the mother of 3 wonderful young adults. She has been involved in volunteering in her community.
