ASSET MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST

PURPOSE

This position is accountable for the strategic management of large scale renewable operating assets in Liberty Power's North American Solar and Hydro generation portfolio.

Responsibilities include lifecycle decision making, risk identification and mitigation, and commercial/contractual management.

This position is also responsible for making complex commercial decisions to realize the expected value and optimize the return of the assets either directly or through coordination and collaboration with other departments and stakeholders.

ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Develop budgets and intra-year forecasts as well as long term business plans to ensure viability of assets under management

  • Perform continuous portfolio reviews and analyses to identify areas that require optimization or improvements

  • Manage, negotiate or advise on project specific contracts (i.e. PPAs, interconnection agreements, service agreements, asset management and operations and maintenance agreements    

  • Identify capital requirements and opportunities; ensure that appropriate capital is available, and that capital projects are appropriately managed and executed

  • Make recommendations on capital investments, asset improvements and asset disposition for assets under management

  • Strategize on continuous improvement and optimization of the assets to extract maximum value

  • Participate in the development and implementation of business planning systems used to manage business strategy

  • Stay current with the state of the power generation markets in North America, with specific focus on changes to market rules, ancillary services, compliance and regulatory changes

  • Liase between internal departments such as: Operations, Engineering, Asset Performance, Energy Services, Business Development, Legal and EH&S, to ensure activities are effectively aligned

  • Monitor and establish mitigation strategies for all risks to business performance and corporate strategy

  • Work closely with Business Development and Construction teams to support projects under development and under construction and transition new assets from construction phase to operation phase

  • Ensure that projects are properly insured and manage insurance claims

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 

  • 5 years+ of related commercial experience in the renewable energy industry

  • Preferred asset and/or project management background

  • Experienced in & strong understanding of commercial contracts and agreements

  • Familiar with project financing structure & modelling

  • Experienced in Risk Mitigation, Portfolio Optimization, Financial Performance 

  • Skilled communicator and experience with complex negotiations
