WPC is looking to fill a Communications & Public Affairs Director position on a full-time basis. Reporting to the President & CEO, the Communications & Public Affairs Director will develop, implement, and execute effective communications strategies, messages and actions plans in support of the association’s mission, vision and goals. We are seeking a bilingual, proactive, detail-oriented individual with strong communication and organizational skills and experience.
The candidate will play a central role in shaping and communicating the organization’s messages to government, stakeholders and the broader public.
The WaterPower Canada team is lean and efficient. This position is highly collaborative and requires active communications support for various departments and projects within the organization.
The Communications and Public Affairs Director is responsible for varied communications channels including print, web, events, traditional media, and social media.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement communications strategies, plans and associated communication material to advance WPC’s brand identity and events, to facilitate member engagement, retention and recruitment and increase visibility of WPC’s priorities across key stakeholder audiences.
Define, implement and monitor an evaluation policy for communication actions - through performance indicators.
Write, edit, and develop content for presentations, speeches, talking points, web, social media, newsletters, eblasts, press releases, brochures, etc.
Manage and monitor day-to-day website and social media platforms for news and content of interest and member engagement.
Carry out research and strategic monitoring (content, positioning, communication policies, communication actions, etc.)
Oversee the creation of supporting materials for the association's various audiences (brochures, posters, videos, podcasts, etc.) and develop, plan and manage the related communications budget.
Ensure WaterPower Canada’s brand integrity for all communications and marketing and advise senior management on the evolution of the brand identity and positioning.
Coordinate media requests and interactions.
Collaborate with key partners and stakeholders.
Other duties as required by executive management.
Education, Experience and Skills Required
Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field.
A minimum of 7 years of demonstrated experience in communications, public affairs and media relations and social media.
Demonstrated experience and leadership in developing and implementing comprehensive and effective communication plans, and marketing material and programs to advance an organizations’ mission and goals.
Extensive experience in writing, editing and production of newsletters, eblasts, press releases, speeches, annual reports, and other print publications.
Experience and familiarity with digital platforms and tools such as Mail Chimp, Word Press, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.
Excellent written and oral communications skills both in English and French.
Ability to communicate complex issues clearly and concisely.
Professional work ethic.
Rigor, creativity, and resourcefulness.
Strong organizational skills.
Capacity to prioritize tasks and address tight deadlines.
Bilingual (English, French).
Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
Ability to travel across Canada as required from time to time.
Assets
Experience in electricity, energy and environment sectors will be considered an asset.
Experience with a public administration (federal or provincial) or with a national association will be considered an asset.
