WiRE @ The 29th Conference of Parties

COP29, the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference, took place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 11 to 22, 2024. Its central focus was on climate finance, aiming to establish a new global goal for financial support to developing nations.

The conference concluded with an agreement for developed countries to provide at least $300 billion annually by 2035 to help developing countries with their climate action. Beyond finance, the agenda also addressed topics like mitigation and emissions reduction, the Global Goal on Adaptation, and the operationalization of the Loss and Damage Fund to support vulnerable nations hit by climate disasters. Another key area of discussion was the creation of rules for a global carbon trading system.
