    Description

    The Staff Electrical Designer will perform various phases of planning, site evaluations, analytical designs, report preparation, specifications, and preparation of proposal and construction documentation and electrical plans as part of a project team, prepare standard and non-routine drawing with complex features using information from rough sketches, detailed engineering notes or brief verbal guidance. This position will work on various projects with a diverse portfolio of project types and clients.

    • Design various electrical projects including creating electrical single line diagram, elevation diagram, schematics, layouts, lighting systems, protection and controls, and site and facility design. Follow all company, client and project design and drafting standards.

    • Plan and develop drawings for production work including problem analysis, design layout and calculations on non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.

    • Execute variety of electrical design assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques including drawing sequence and presentation, sizing various system components and refining rough sketches.

    • Execute changes to designs or sketches and redlines or mark-ups on ongoing projects.

    • Analyze reports, drawings and tests to plan and design projects.

    • Interpret and incorporate design codes and specifications related to design requirements.

    • Review design drawings for quality assurance within scope, budget and schedule. Perform project tasks and assignments within budgeted hours and deadlines.

    • Design of 15kV, 5kV, 480V and below voltage systems, one lines, motor schematics, plans and elevations, installation details, drawing lists, cable schedule, cable sizing, and other basic electrical calculations.

    • Specify lighting transformers, panelboards, switchboards, MCCs, and other small power equipment and material.

The Senior Electrical Engineer will serve as the project Lead Electrical Engineer on EPC projects and as Project Manager on electrical upgrade projects.     Duties include:

    • Have detail knowledge of API, NFPA 70, 70E, NEMA, PIP, and other industry standards

    • Evaluate client requirements and author clarifications and exceptions to RFPs, design basis documents, project execution plans and electrical scopes of work.

    • Provide hands-on electrical engineering while mentoring and coaching the discipline team.

    Lead the design, specification, and multi-discipline coordination of the following fire protection systems: Wet-pipe, dry-pipe, pre-action, deluge, and foam/water fire suppression systems. Fire water supply infrastructure including fire water storage tanks, fire pumps, underground and aboveground distribution piping and associated appurtenances. Outdoor fire suppression systems including monitors, spray systems, and exposure protection systems. Addressable and non-addressable voice evacuation fire alarm systems including initiation devices, supervision devices, and audible and visual notification appliances. Releasing systems for pre-action, foam/water, and clean agent systems.

    • Evaluate and lead the creation of fire protection calculations including the hydraulic analysis of fire water supply and demand, battery calculations, and voltage drop calculations.

    • North American project experience is required. Canadian project experience is preferred.

    • Lead the procurement process of firewater specials and pumps. Work with fire protection subcontractors on installation of fire protection systems.

    Description

    We are seeking a self-motivated senior-level geoscience or engineering professional to join Burns & McDonnell’s Canadian environmental team.

    The Senior Engineering Professional will develop an environmental engineering practice to provide environmental remediation and decarbonization (i.e., carbon dioxide storage) services to a wide variety of clients in Canada and the US. Leadership responsibilities will include business development, project management, technical leadership, and client relationship development and maintenance. Technical knowledge, leadership, and communications skills are key aspects of this position. Individuals should be team-focused and should be well-connected in the environmental industry, with the ability to expand our client base and grow the Canadian team. Strong connections within the oil and gas, transportation, utility, and/or industrial sectors is a plus.

    The successful candidate should possess a diverse background in engineering, investigation and remediation, project/program management skills, and significant subsurface investigation/remediation, consulting, and execution experience. Experience in the successful development and execution of investigation, remediation, geologic storage, and site management strategies within federal and provincial regulatory requirements is a plus. Existing client relationships are also a plus. Travel is required and professional registration is preferred.

    Responsibilities:

    Support the development of a business plan to establish an engineering and remediation practice in Canada and collaborate closely with Engineers, Geologists, Project Managers, and Program Managers to advance the remediation practice.

    Prepare scopes of work, cost estimates, and proposals and develop and evaluate plans for major projects.

    Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced staff members and coordinate departmental project studies, reports, or project design assignments.

    Project management and execution, including the development and maintenance of project scopes, schedules, and budgets, and coordination of team members.

    Communicate effectively with peers, clients, and regulators; demonstrate strong written, verbal, computer, and interpersonal skills

    Support business development activities including client interaction and customer relationship management, contribute to business development plans, identify markets/potential clients and related sales targets, and assist the team in preparing responses to requests for proposals and requests for qualifications.

    Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental/civil/chemical/geological engineering, or a related field, from an accredited curriculum.

    Strong understanding of federal, provincial, and regional regulatory requirements.

    Minimum of 7 years of related environmental remediation experience. Project management experience is preferred.

    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

    Ability to work within a Team framework.

    Self-motivation and the ability to multi-task (write reports, analyze data, perform technical project tasks, etc.) are also a prerequisite.

    Must have the ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of project-related matters.

    Aptitude, capability, and inclination to train, mentor, and develop junior and intermediate staff.

    Ability to present complex technical information clearly, both verbally and in writing.
