RheEnergise Canada Ltd.

Montréal HD Hydro™ Technology Centre

RheEnergise is a cleantech startup developing low-cost, massively scalable, long-duration energy storage. Utilising a proprietary high-density fluid in a closed loop system, we believe that HD Hydro® will be instrumental in enabling the global energy transition.

There is no time to waste in bringing climate tech solutions to market. To support our ambitious development strategy, we are growing the R&D team at our Montréal technology centre. Join the team that propels the different engineering sub-system development projects and leads the programme of demonstration projects.

About the Role

You will be joining the R&D Engineering team creating the first-ever HD Hydro system. As Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be working with other engineers in the company to help them bring various systems to life, working on everything from pure R&D test rigs to specific hardware for actual customer projects. You will have an exemplary track record in detailed mechanical design, analysis, and extensive CAD experience, through to working with suppliers to deliver the final hardware. This role has the potential for future line management as the company grows and more design capacity is required.

Along the way you will be expected to contribute to the broader R&D efforts, such as developing prototyping facilities, designing test systems and creating company processes. You will be comfortable sourcing components, solutions, and services as part of the overall development process. Problem-solving, analysis, iteration, improvement, and innovation are your bread and butter.

This full-time position is based at RheEnergise’s HD Hydro Technology Centre in Montréal and reports to the CTO. Working is in-office or remote (as circumstances permit) and occasionally on-site when demonstrators or pilot projects are being built.

Your Attributes

  • Imaginative, creative problem-solver with a “get it done” attitude, attention to detail and pride in work

  • You are passionate about climate change and finding solutions to change the world

  • You have experience working in startups and thrive in the chaotic — but creative — environment, valuing the autonomy and accountability that a small business provides

  • Self-motivated, independent when need be, but also with potential to be a team builder as the company grows

  • Some prior experience delegating tasks and leading a team, including managing workloads and deadlines

  • Always ready to change hats and work on problems outside your area of expertise, and comfortable adapting to a fast-changing environment

  • You are a good communicator, motivator and possess the desire to coach others

  • You value transparency and are capable of objective thinking in decision making situations

  • You dispose of an international mindset and take pleasure in working in a cross-cultural setting

Your Skills

  • Engineer with 8+ years relevant experience delivering actual hardware and strong industry networks. You know where to go to source a solution or get a custom part built

  • Expertise with both 2D and 3D CAD software (AutoCAD, Solidworks, Siemens NX, CATIA, Inventor, etc.), ideally in both complex component and system level design, e.g. piping systems, electrical wiring diagrams, etc.

  • Strong experience with component and equipment management (BOM and PDM tools) for R&D, manufacturing, and project environments. Exposure to additive manufacturing (3D printing) concepts is an asset

  • Solid understanding of Mechanical Engineering principles and confidence applying them to actual hardware and eventually commercial product offering.

  • Understanding of industrial machining and construction processes

  • Knowledge of other engineering disciplines, especially electrical and process engineering

  • A knack for systems design with the ability to see both the big picture and the small details

  • Ability to quickly learn new software and generate clear and precise drawings conforming to industry standards

  • FEA and CFD experience and knowledge are a plus

  • Extensive experience in sourcing of components and services

  • Excellent transferable skills make you a versatile early employee

  • Working proficiency in both English and French

Why work for RheEnergise

  • Get in “at the ground floor” and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of a cleantech startup with extraordinary growth potential and high profile
