Danika Surkari is a student, civic advocate, and aspiring public servant based in Toronto, Canada. As someone with deep roots in community engagement, she is pursuing a dual degree at Sciences Po (Politics and Government, Pre-Law pathway) and the University of British Columbia (Environmental Science and Sustainability), where she will begin the UBC component of her studies in 2027. Her academic path reflects her conviction that meaningful progress on the challenges facing Canada, from democratic renewal to the clean energy transition, requires fluency in both policy and science.
Danika's commitment to public life began early. She started volunteering and working at age 16, and her civic involvement has since spanned the York Region President's Council and Create Change Academy, where she served as a student ambassador. Her advocacy has reached the international stage: she delivered a formal oral intervention at the United Nations Human Rights Council during the 145th ICCPR Review Session on Canada, presenting an analysis of Article 25 of the Covenant on electoral integrity and democratic access.
Professionally, Danika spent approximately two and a half years as a Administrative Assistant in a federal Member of Parliament's constituency office, where she developed firsthand experience in constituent service and the workings of the House of Commons. She has also completed her internship with People for Education, a national charity focused on public education, where she supports communications for the Annual Canadian School Survey.
At Sciences Po's Menton campus, Danika is an active contributor to student life through Model United Nations, having led communications, marketing, and design for MEDMUN and SPMUN 2026. Her interests include international affairs, diplomacy, human rights, civic engagement, and institutional reform.
Danika is comitted to supporting WiRE's mission of advancing the role and recognition of women in the renewable energy sector, and to learn from the community of women leading Canada's energy transition.
