Maya is in her final year of completing a Bachelor’s degree in Bioresource Engineering at McGill University. She is currently an undergraduate research assistant in the Energy Technology and Policy Assessment (ETAPA) lab at McGill. Her research focuses on analyzing existing life cycle assessments of electricity generation in Canada in addition to data collection on power plants, to further identify research gaps and advance the spatiotemporal resolution of life cycle assessments. She is proud to be working for a lab run by a female professor, and recognizes the impact of female leadership. Maya is a passionate advocate for women in STEM. As a mentor to high school students aspiring to study engineering at McGill, she has the privilege of being a part of the Promoting Opportunities for Women in Engineering (POWE) student-run club.
Her goal as a student ambassador for WiRE is to create a nurturing environment for women interested in renewable energy at McGill, and empower the mindset that they can all be the next leaders in the world’s energy transition.
