Shruthi is currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and Biology as an undergraduate student at York University. Throughout her schooling experience so far, she has taken the most pride in what she has done to make real changes and achieve results that she was afforded the opportunity to by the For Inspiration And Recognition in Science and Technology (FIRST) Robotics Team.

She helped orchestrate a robotics summer camp for elementary and middle school kids. To make them more available to low-income families, they provided scholarships for the week-long camp. Their STEM-themed activities engaged students and challenged them through problem-solving and creativity skills that are utilized in current STEM careers. Her experience as such is why she is passionate about expanding both her knowledge of science and technology and her desire to give back to the community. In her spare time, Shruthi enjoys crocheting and knitting while also tending to her vegetable garden. She hopes to promote environmental justice principles in technology projects. Creating a tool for environmental action is her fighting chance to lead a justice-focused culture shift in the tech space, and empower women to create innovative, equitable, and just projects and solutions to various environmental problems. She believes in the prospects of pursuing and advocating for transformative solutions that enable individuals to contribute to the global fight against climate change, demonstrating the potential that curious, motivated women have to change the world.

Exploring ideas of humanity that are often set upon the back burner of technological development while normalizing technology has been destructive to the people and the planet. As president, she hopes to investigate these themes through the lenses of environmental justice and technology by researching across disciplines and examining both academic and community-driven work. As York University’s WiRE Chapter Lead, Shruthi believes WiRE provides an environment in which students can thrive academically, while also maintaining a means of diversity in which they can share their frame of mind with their peers. The assets that WiRE possesses will allow them to immerse themselves in all of the possibilities that it puts forward. Moreover, this organization is filled with visionary women that will both question and change the world, with acclaimed mentors to guide them in each endeavor. This environment is exactly what she hoped to find in WiRE that presents more than just a name brand, but an experience.
