WiRE and Nuclear for Climate Issue Joint Call for Technology Neutrality at COP30 Brazil

BRAZIL — In a landmark collaboration at the COP30 Climate Summit, Women in Renewable Energy (WiRE) and Nuclear for Climate (N4C) released a joint statement advocating for an inclusive, "all-of-the-above" approach to the global energy transition.

The partnership emphasizes that achieving Net Zero by 2050 requires a departure from technology-specific silos in favor of a technology-neutral framework—one that prioritizes carbon reduction and grid reliability above all else.

A Pragmatic Path to Net Zero

The joint statement highlights a critical shift in the climate conversation: the transition to a sustainable future is no longer a competition between individual technologies, but a collaborative effort to replace fossil fuels. By bringing together the renewable energy and nuclear sectors, WiRE and N4C are championing policies rooted in technical reality and engineering pragmatism.

Key pillars of the joint statement include:

  • Technology Neutrality: Urging policymakers to adopt a merit-based approach to clean energy sources, ensuring that all low-carbon technologies have a seat at the table.

  • A Just and Inclusive Transition: Ensuring that the shift to clean energy is human-centered, creating equitable opportunities for diverse workforces globally.

  • Collaborative Innovation: Recognizing that the integration of variable renewables and baseload nuclear power is essential for a stable, decarbonized grid.

Leading the Conversation in Brazil

The announcement was marked by a high-level press conference at COP30, featuring insights from global energy leaders including Jadwiga Najder, Dr. Dola Ana, Gayatri Karnik, Dr. Rahaf Ajaj, and Veeshesh Sunassy. These experts underscored that a just transition must be inclusive not only of different technologies but of the diverse voices—particularly women—who are driving the energy sector forward.

"The energy transition requires pragmatic, collaborative thinking. By recognizing our shared goals, we can make lasting progress toward a secure and carbon-free future."
