About the role

As a Senior Electrical Engineer at Grengine, you will play a pivotal role in advancing energy storage solutions for our customers. This position will be responsible for the design (from concept to detailed engineering) and integration of Grengine’s battery systems into stand-alone, microgrid, and utility-grid solutions. You will work with other engineers, subject matter experts, and the management team to engineer and produce great solutions for our customers. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of tasks, offering you a diverse and dynamic work environment. Other areas of responsibilities include, but are not limited to: safety culture, mentorship, informal leadership, and encouraging innovation. You will report directly to the VP of Engineering and would be a Responsible Member of our engineering team.


Responsibilities

  • Feasibility studies, front end engineering designs, and detailed designs of utility-grid and microgrid integrated battery energy storage systems. 

  • Involved with projects to identify, assess, and develop great solutions for our clients with protective measures for engineering risks.

  • Support of battery system level design failure mode and effect analysis and ensure the linking with other components and subsystems.

  • Work with other engineers and subject matter experts to coordinate battery system electronics and software, to ensure the optimal integration of the system requirements.

  • Support system safety planning, assessments and authentication.

  • Be one of the Responsible Members on Grengines Engineering Permit to Practice.

Candidate requirements

  • Alignment with the company’s values: Kind, Tenacious, Courageously Curious, Ethical, and Fun!

  • Can-do attitude, problem solver, and very flexible with shifting tasks.

  • Degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university. 

  • Practising, licensed professional member, professional engineer, or licensee (or eligible to be a licensed with APEGA) and in good standing.

  • Experience with inverters, decentralized energy systems, integration with micro-grid and utility grids, microcontrollers, automatic transfer switches and high voltage/industrial grid connections.

  • Strong at customer-oriented communication.

  • Experienced with producing solutions that can be implemented to enable a balanced and optimum result that considers all stakeholder requirements (eg. business, technical, social).

  • Experienced with establishing acceptance criteria with the customer.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Self starter. Ability to work as a team and also independently.

  • Understands the Canadian Electrical Code.

  • Experience with trouble-shooting and diagnosing electrical faults.


Optional/Ideal

  • Has been a notable and positive influence in supporting a strong safety culture.

  • Experience with Google Suite (gmail, sheets, docs, etc.).

  • Has led or mentored teams, either formally or informally.

  • Has used modelling and simulation to assess function and performance of battery system elements, or entire battery systems.

  • Has done root-cause-analysis and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).

  • Project management experience.

  • 5S experience.
